Cuts to Services
To save money from its Adult Social Services budget, Lambeth Council:
- Has chopped £736,000 from the funding of vital services provided by local voluntary and community groups
This is a huge proportion of the money the Council gives to groups which work with frail and isolated older people, those with physical and sensory disabilities and long-term health problems, adults with learning difficulties, people with mental ill-health and carers. Services at risk include breaks for carers, advice, information, advocacy, volunteering, lunch clubs and drop-ins for elderly people, activities for disabled people and service user involvement projects. - Planned to take services away from at least 700 vulnerable adults and to make it much harder for others to get help from social services in the future. After strong protests it is has now backed down. Find out more about eligibility.
- Is raising charges for homecare services by a massive 132% at a stroke from 1st September and to further 14% increase from April 2008. Find out more about increased charges.
